One of the great privileges of being in Greeley is the access to parks that we have here. The city website proudly boasts that there are 300 acres of neighborhood parks spread between over 40 locations. Having grown up here, access to a variety of parks (and libraries) was something I took for granted until I left and learned what it was like to live in other places and found myself longing for the green spaces I grew up playing, and later photographing, in.
As a teenager and young adult I leaned into using the landscapes available to me as often as possible, the beautiful spaces and natural light eliminated the cost of renting a studio or buying more gear, and most of my clients were locals who were already comfortable at whatever park we chose to use for their sessions.
Glenmere Park became a staple in my images for several years, and I fully plan on it to continue to be a staple now that I am back in Greeley full time. So, needless to say, it is one of my favorite parks to use as a photography location. Glenmere, Sandborn, and Bittersweet parks have large bodies of water and mature trees that are beautiful to incorporate into photographs.
Another favorite of mine is Josephine Jones, which is both a park and a natural area and has it all - water, mature trees, a 1-mile loop walking trail, a playground, maintained lawn, tallgrass and shrubs
